Volunteer Opportunities at TCRP

At TCRP, we offer many different volunteer opportunities to help people give back, while also teaching practical skills that our volunteers can add to their repertoire, as well as being able to put a variety of real-life skills and experience that can be put onto a resume when it comes to employment readiness. We welcome anyone who wants to come volunteer, whether it be to complete community service hours, to help out with closing up gaps in employment due to consequences from substance use, finishing requirements for treatment, or simply just to give back to the community in a positive way.

To get involved with volunteering with Twin Cities Recovery Project, call our South Minneapolis office at 612-886-2045 and schedule a time to come in and complete a volunteer application. From there, you will complete the volunteer onboarding process and be able to schedule a time and date to volunteer with one of our staff. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm.

Some of the volunteer services that we offer at TCRP include:

Front Desk

This volunteer opportunity is one of the most important roles we have at TCRP. Our front desk volunteers are the first impression to everyone who enters TCRP, and are responsible for making sure new faces feel welcome right away. Front Desk Volunteers make sure that all guests sign in and out, and inform staff if someone is here to meet with them.

Other front desk volunteer responsibilities include answering the main phone line, transferring calls, inviting and confirming RSVPs to upcoming events at TCRP, faxing and making copies of documents, making coffee, offering refreshments and snacks to people who come in, sweeping and mopping floors, emptying the garbage, as well as other miscellaneous administrative tasks. TCRP is always in need of people who are open, empathetic, and passionate about recovery to volunteer their time for this role. There are no requirements needed to start volunteering as a front desk volunteer besides completing the volunteer application and onboarding.

Events

The foundation of TCRP’s values being Social Wellness and Peer Support, sp TCRP makes a strong effort to make sure we have events planned multiple times throughout every month. For all of these different events, TCRP needs volunteers to help out with a variety of tasks. Event Volunteers are the face of TCRP, and represent our image to the community. Event Volunteers are in charge of helping with setting up tables, chairs, and other decorations, helping make and serve food, restocking refreshments, helping attendees with any questions they may have, as well as being in charge of cleaning up throughout the event and taking down everything at the end of the event. We also invite the most active volunteers at our events (those who come and help out most often at TCRP events) to join the Events Committee, which help to plan out future events and social wellness activities for TCRP to encourage healthy recreation for people in recovery.

Outreach & TCRP Street Ambassador Team

TCRP partners with a number of community organizations to deliver Peer Recovery services, as well as coming to facilities to speak or host events. In these situations, volunteers assist with setting up and facilitating groups/speaking opportunities, telling your story and explaining the services that TCRP offers, as well as talking about how TCRP has impacted your recovery. These events are limited to the amount of opportunities scheduled at these organizations, and responsibilities may differ depending on the outreach opportunities.

TCRP also does boots-on-the-ground outreach through our Street Ambassador Team, which goes out to the streets and deliver essential needs and other items to displaced or homeless individuals. This includes giving out Harm Reduction equipment such as clean syringes, naloxone kits, and test kits to test substances for the presence of fentanyl. We also give out food, clothing, hygiene products, and other essential needs. For these volunteer opportunities, we are looking for individuals that are warm, open-minded, down to earth, and non-judgmental to work with these individuals in a way that decreases the stigma and shame that come with their current living or social situations. We also occasionally will interview individuals if they fill out a media release and consent form, but it’s important that individuals feel that they don’t feel obligated or coerced into speaking with us. The opportunities for the Street Ambassador Team are limited to the most active volunteers at TCRP, and we invite people with a strong willingness to help out and devote their time to join us on these outings. We do not have a consistent schedule on when we go out to do outreach, with more outings occurring when the need for housing is more imminent. The Street Ambassador Team meets monthly to discuss when we will go out and serve the community.
